Flippin' for Addition!

We've been working super hard on our addition fact fluency!
Games, flashcards, you name it, we've done it!!!

Addition just got a lot more fun with these little flip books!

They're super easy to make.
Just copy them double-sided.

Then fold in half and cut along the dotted lines!

The answers go on the INSIDE of the flap.
That way you can practice them without seeing the answer. :)
Pick a math fact, answer it, and flip a flap to check!
How fast can you flip?!

My kids love them!!!
It was just what we needed to make addition more fun!
Send them home, use for centers, or have them ready for fast finishers!

I created these to go along with the strategies we use to teach addition.
Each little book has the strategy and a little clue to help solve it.

MLK Jr. Activity!

This is one of my favorite activities to do around Martin Luther King Jr. Day!
(I'm not sure where the original activity came from....
but whoever it was thank you!!!)

You need two eggs.
One brown.
One white.

I went to the store to buy two cartons of eggs.
The first brown carton I picked up had a white one in it.
Perfect or what?!?!?!?!
I buy those eggs all the time and I've never, ever gotten a white one before!

Talk to your kids about the similarities and differences between the eggs.
Mine kids mentioned the color and the size.

Then talk about what they think the inside looks like.
Will they be the same?
We voted before we cracked them.
Some thought they'd be different.
Some thought they'd be the same.
One even asked if we could vote for "we're not sure!"

Then crack them open!
They're the same!!
I swished them around too and asked if they could tell me which was which. :)

We talk about how the color of our skin or hair may be different,
but we're all the same on the inside!
What matters the most is the way you act and treat others.

We can all be friends. :)
Their answers made me smile.

Have a happy week!!!

Go For It! {freebie!}

I have a super duper fun game to tell you about!
One of my coworkers shared this idea with me when I first started teaching.
It's a favorite every year!
It can be used to practice just about any skill!!!

It's called Go For It!

It's a blank game board.
The kids move from the start to the smiley face and back again.
Back and forth.  Back and forth.

My kids think it's so funny when I tell them it's a never-ending game!!!

You can use Go For It! with dice...roll two and add them up.
Roll two dice and subtract.
Roll a dice and read a sight word.
Roll a dice and answer a math fact.
Back and forth.
Roll a dice and spell a word for your partner.
Pick up two cards and add them.
Roll a dice and do that many jumping jacks.
Just kidding.
Kind of. ;)

But basically, if you have dice or flashcards, your kids can practice any skill you're working on!
I promise they'll love it!!!

Happy practicing!! :)

Sentence Fixing Machines!

Capitals.
Periods.
Spaces.
Sometimes it's hard to remember everything sentences need!!!

I found something that works miracles in my room!
Fake glasses from the Target Dollar Spot....
They put those things on and amazing things happen!

I mean it.
They see missed capitals.
They can find missed punctuation.
It's ahhhh-mazing!
There's just something about putting those glasses on
that turns them into little sentence fixing machines!

Plus, they just look adorable wearing them!
Try them out in your room!
I'd love to hear how they work!!

Happy 2016!

Hello 2016!
This year is going to be amazing! :)

Today was our first day back from break.
We took it easy. ;)

I found this super fun New Year's activity I wanted to share with you!
The kids watch a PowerPoint and have to color the numbers to make a mystery picture.
I told them we were making a mystery picture and they were ALL ears!!!

She included 6 different options....one for number sense, 10 more/10 less, and lots more!
We did the number sense one.
The PowerPoint goes on it's own and makes a little chime when the slide changes.
My kids LOVED IT!

They were so cute to watch, so engaged and waiting eagerly for the next number.

They even begged me to do another one!
Maybe we'll try another version of it tomorrow. ;)
It's a freebie!
