This week I'm sharing an addition anchor chart! My kids are PROS at writing their addition facts horizontally. Vertically, however, they kept getting stuck. We've been practicing, practicing, practicing, but they just didn't seem to understand how to write it!
Here's what I came up with!
I've been calling this the "upstairs, downstairs way." Original, right?! :) The addends go in the house, one upstairs and one downstairs. The sum goes in the basement. Many of my kiddos were writing the plus sign between the two numbers, like we do when we write them horizontally. But WHO invited him in the house?! That silly little plus sign needs to wait outside and knock on the door before barging in!!!!!
It's silly, but it WORKED!!!
