Five for Friday & a Bloglovin' Giveaway!

Happy Friday!!  I'm linking up with Doodlebugs for this week's Five for Friday!!!

fiveforfriday

1. Today is my first day of summer!!!  Woohoo!  I feel weird not going to work!  I'm used to running around with a million things to do!

Moo is super happy I'll be home :)

2.  Tuesday was the last day with my kiddos.  It was a sad day!  I got lots of gifts and love notes.  We did an "award show" and I gave each of them an award for completing first grade.  They also had to give a speech :)  They were so cute!  We had some silly ones ("First Grade is crack-a-lackin!!!"), some serious ones (Thank you for being my friends.  I'm going to miss all of you.), and some shy ones who just said thank you.  We had a "red" carpet and everything....it was actually a silver carpet!  They loved it.  Some walked down like they were walking down a runway.  I miss them already!!!!

3.  Yesterday I finished packing up my classroom.  I don't even recognize it.  It's not fun and not bright and not happy!  I turned my key in too.  It was weird thinking that that was the last time I'd be leaving.  It's where I did my student teaching and taught for four years.  Obviously I cried!

This is what it looked like before!

And after!  Sad, isn't it?!

I'm looking forward to setting up  my new classroom.  We're told we can get in around August 1st....I wish I could start now!  I need to start planning and organizing!!

4. I have lots of things I plan on making over the summer.  I think this one is the first!!

5.  I'm also joining in on the Bloglovin' Giveaway Linky!!  You can follow me by clicking the link on the right!  Two winners will win their choice of two products from my TpT store!

My First Throwback Thursday!

I'm linking up with Cara Carroll for my first Throwback Thursday!!

I'm fairly new to the blogging world, but here is a post about Quiet Critters, which have worked SO WELL as a behavior management system in my classroom!

*************************************************************************
Original Post from April 27, 2013

Our kiddos sometimes get a little carried away with all the excitement we have in store for them throughout the day.  And that means our rooms can get a little noisy!!  I found this Quiet Critter idea at The Lemonade Stand Teachers and I just HAD to try it.  I made these cute little guys.

I gave each one a cute little name: Wonderful Wazzy, Fabuous Fiona, Magnificent Marvin.  You get the idea. I may have spent more time thinking of funky names than actually making these cute little critters!

There were a huge hit with my kids the second I introduced them.  Obviously I put on a huge production...I wanted them to know how important these little critters are!  I told them that these guys would be living on my desk, but like to come out and visit with friends.  The only thing is that they can only survive when the person they're with is nice and quiet.  Otherwise, they get super scared and have to go back home.  And we don't want to scare them right????!!!!  Kids in whisper shouts: NOOOOOO!  So cute!

I hand our little critters out just about every day.  The second I pick them up off my desk, everyone gets super quiet and focuses on their work, while secretly peeking at me out of the corner of their eye to see who will get the quiet critters this time!  They're like little magic charms!!!  I have 8 of them, so I hand them out to a few kids at a time.  To make it more special, when they are working quietly, I let whoever has the quiet critter pass it on to someone else who is working quietly.  That way everyone gets a chance (if they're working quietly of course :)!) The kids do a great job in making sure that they pass it to someone who hasn't had one yet.  Finding another quiet student to take care of you critter is a very important job.

At snack time, or when we are working in groups or partners, my kids always make sure to return their quiet critters safely to their home on my desk so they don't get scared.  They carry them like little babies in their hands, some rocking them, and place them ever so gently back home.  I wish you could see them do it.  It's seriously the cutest thing ever!

I'm telling you, these quiet critters are the best thing ever!  What do you use for behavior management in your classroom?

Happy Saturday Everyone!!  Hope you all did something fun!

I still love the Quiet Critters!  They are like little tiny miracles! ;)  I plan on making more this summer :)

Today was my last day at my current school.  It was a sad day!!  I got home and slept for two hours....I've been super stressed and I think it finally all caught up with me!  I'll tell you more about the move tomorrow.  Tonight I plan on relaxing!

Happy almost Friday!!

Every Tuesday Dana features two new bloggers!  Stop by her blog to find out a little more about me :)  If you are a new blogger, send her an email and you can be featured too!  If you aren't, stop by to check out her awesome ideas!! :)  Thank you Dana!!!

Today was our last day of school.  I cried.  I told you I would!!!!!!  It was bittersweet.  Trust me, I'm happy it's summer!  But I'm sad to see my kids go.  Sad that we'll be losing two members of our first grade team.  Sad that I won't be teaching at this school anymore.  But I am also excited to begin this new chapter.  Next year I will be working with a team of 15 amazing girls and we will be in a school consisting of only first grade.  I look forward to setting up my new classroom and beginning this adventure with my new team.

We enjoyed our last day together!  The kids autographed each other beach balls (I finally got them all blown up :)! )

We had popsicles.  Blue ones.  They were sticking their tongues out and asking everyone if they were blue. :)

One of the boys rolled himself up in the carpet and said he was coming with me to my new school.  How cute is that? :)

I sure am going to miss this class!!  Don't forget to stop by and check out Dana's blog!!!  Thanks again, Dana!

 Happy summer!!! :)

End of Year Fun!

One more day.  That's it....one.  I'm sad.  I don't want the year to end!  My classroom looks bare and the kids have been begging me to stop taking things down and packing boxes: "We're losing our classroom!"

I bought some grow capsule things at the Target Dollar Spot awhile ago and we watched them grow today!  The kids had a blast watching them and trying to guess what they were as they slowly unfolded.

They were actually a lot cuter than I thought they were going to be :)  I wish I had more to do for tomorrow!  Of course, we also wrote about them!!  You know how much I love writing!!!

I know you are probably wondering about how my little chickies are doing!!! ;)  They are SUPER!!  Although Momma Hen was a bad mommy, I am not (hehehe!).  I brought the rest of the eggs into school with me today to put in the incubator.  Two were wiggling away so I HOPE they hatch tomorrow!!!  That would make the perfect last day!

The three chicks are cuter than ever!  I was worried about one because she wasn't really walking around or opening her eyes yesterday.  So I've been taking extra good care to make sure she drinks and eats.  She's looking much better today!!  Isn't she so cute!!!!!

Okay, one more day.  I can't believe it.  I feel the tears coming already!  Let's hope the rest of the chicks hatch before my kiddos leave for the summer!

A Mini Farm!

Ok so this doesn't exactly have to do with school....but we DO study life cycles, so it COULD be related? :)

Momma Hen's chicks hatched!!!!  I've been waiting and waiting for this day!!!!!  Her first batch of eggs didn't hatch (I think she may have gotten off them for too long) and I wasn't sure they would this time either... but they did!

Well, it turns out that Momma Hen isn't exactly the best mother after all. *sad face* She attacked the baby!  Luckily I was there so I saved it and brought it inside under a heat lamp. I was hoping it was just because it was her first chick and she wasn't sure what to expect. Nope. She attacked the next two as well.  What a bad momma. Don't worry though, I saved them all!

So it looks like we'll be raising these babies inside too.  I'm sad.  I mean, don't get me wrong, I love raising them, but I wanted to see how Momma Hen took care of them.  I wanted to see the REAL life cycle!

She's still sitting on five eggs and I'm so afraid they'll hatch while I'm at school tomorrow!  So I'm thinking I may bring them in and put them in the incubator. Am I crazy?! :)  My kids will be so excited if they can see them hatch again!  It'll be the perfect way to end the year :)

I mentioned the little kitty that's been hanging around our yard in a previous post....no one has answered our lost kitty ad :(. He hasn't left the yard all weekend!  He's so sweet and friendly....who wouldn't miss him?!  So we gave him a name, Jinx! And if he has a name then we have to keep him, right? ;)

Ok, so you know about our mini farm :)

I finished my report cards this weekend!  Woot!  Hopefully we'll get attendance tomorrow so I can print them up!

Have a terrific week!!

Five For Friday!

This has been one crazy week!  It's also Friday (yay!) so I am linking up with Doodle Bugs for this week's Five for Friday!!

Here goes!

1.  I have slowly but surely been packing my things to move schools next year.  I've been taking a little bit home everyday.

It's sad seeing it look less and less like my classroom!

2.  Today was Field Day!  The kids had a blast.  We did lots of fun games.  We also made these awesome visors!!

At the end, the kids all received a t-shirt with the year they will graduate high school (2024!!!).  They always love getting these!

3.  I finally finished my end of the year gifts!  The kids will each get a beach ball and book.  Monday they'll be autographing each others beach balls.  The tags are in my TpT store - FREEBIE!! :)

4.  My boyfriend and I have had what we think is a homeless kitty hanging around the yard for awhile now.  So.....I had to feed him!!  He's so friendly!!  He's been hanging out on the deck and snuggling up on our deck furniture.  We are trying to find his home!  (Although, he's so cute and friendly, I would love to keep him :)  Don't tell my boyfriend! ;) )

5.  We are getting new floors for our dining room!!!!  YAY!!  I am so excited.  I think we have one picked out.  We like the one in the corner.  I can't wait!!!!!!!

Have a GREAT weekend!!!!!

These are some of their treasure maps!

Their stories came out so cute!!

A few made others walk the plank in their stories....they thought it was the funniest thing ever :)

Yo, ho, ho 6 more days!  I am exhausted and it's only Monday....shiver me timbers!!!

Five for.....Saturday!

I know, I'm a little late for Doodle Bug's Five for Friday!!

But I have a good excuse!! :)

1. My little brother graduated last night!!!!!  I'm so proud of him! :)

2. I have a new banner! Did you see it?! If you didn't, go look :)  My super duper boyfriend made it for me....I love it!!!!!!

3. Our Father's Day gifts came out really awesome! The kids loved giving them a 'haircut' before they brought them home :)  (I wish our grass was as green as their hair ;) )

4. We are having a blast with our ABC Countdown. Yesterday was Sunglasses Day. I forgot to take a picture of them in their sunglasses, but we made these too! They drew two things they like to do in the summer in the lenses.

5. Wednesday we went on our field trip. The kids learned how to look for signs of animals and then went on a walk through the woods. They got to see a frog and salamander. We also saw lots of animals holes, scat, and bugs. They loved it!!

7 days left. If you follow me on Instagram @asunnydayinfirstgrade, you may have already seen this! But this is about how I've been feeling lately! :) As much as I am going to miss my kiddos and my school, I'm ready for summer! :)

Have a super weekend!!
