A Mini Farm!

Ok so this doesn't exactly have to do with school....but we DO study life cycles, so it COULD be related? :)

Momma Hen's chicks hatched!!!!  I've been waiting and waiting for this day!!!!!  Her first batch of eggs didn't hatch (I think she may have gotten off them for too long) and I wasn't sure they would this time either... but they did!

Well, it turns out that Momma Hen isn't exactly the best mother after all. *sad face* She attacked the baby!  Luckily I was there so I saved it and brought it inside under a heat lamp. I was hoping it was just because it was her first chick and she wasn't sure what to expect. Nope. She attacked the next two as well.  What a bad momma. Don't worry though, I saved them all!

So it looks like we'll be raising these babies inside too.  I'm sad.  I mean, don't get me wrong, I love raising them, but I wanted to see how Momma Hen took care of them.  I wanted to see the REAL life cycle!

She's still sitting on five eggs and I'm so afraid they'll hatch while I'm at school tomorrow!  So I'm thinking I may bring them in and put them in the incubator. Am I crazy?! :)  My kids will be so excited if they can see them hatch again!  It'll be the perfect way to end the year :)

I mentioned the little kitty that's been hanging around our yard in a previous post....no one has answered our lost kitty ad :(. He hasn't left the yard all weekend!  He's so sweet and friendly....who wouldn't miss him?!  So we gave him a name, Jinx! And if he has a name then we have to keep him, right? ;)

Ok, so you know about our mini farm :)

I finished my report cards this weekend!  Woot!  Hopefully we'll get attendance tomorrow so I can print them up!

Have a terrific week!!

  3. What a cute little chick! So funny....after doing the chick unit at school, so many people have come to me asking if I could save eggs they found. I attempted to save ducks twice, but it didn't work out! My kids and I hatched a peacock last summer. It was cool. Good luck with your chicks, the cute cat and the last day of school!
